| | mischievous | ] | (WARNING! This post will have movie spoilers. If you're like me and haven't seen the movie yet, you might want to skip this. But, if you're also like me and you don't give a crap, read on. ALSO: I only casually read mainstream comics. I am not an expert. There.)
The Spirit.

Look at this fantastic drawing of The Spirit kicking down a door. Look how beautiful Will Eisner drew. He was clearly a master in pen and ink and washes and perspective and body position and even how the folds of the clothes "feel" and the manner in which the door is getting smashed. Eisner clearly knew what he was doing.
So, why couldn't Hollyweird procure a director who ALSO knew what they were doing?
This subject is very, very old. The reason being that I absolutely refused to have any part in giving what I knew was a soul-stabbing adventure any of my bills. It wasn't until the Boyfriend managed to get a copy that, okay, at least I'll just be wasting my time, and not money.
Here are some things that struck me while watching:

| Facing the other team + more Zine Fest |
[Jun. 29th, 2009|02:16 pm] |
Just FYI to you all on Livejournal: I'm seriously considering switching to Blogger. I made an account here:
http://margoyle.blogspot.com/
I'm going to cross post for a while and see how it is, but I might very well just drop Livejournal. Please friend me (or whatever equivalent there is) on Blogger if you can!
Anyway, cross-post ahoy!
____________________
Howdy,
I felt like switching to Blogger. Let's see who wins!
I also wanted to do something that I almost never, ever do: I wanted to talk more about the ridiculously awesome swag (bought and traded) that I got from the NYC Zine Fest this weekend. I'm that inspired! Out of my own selfishness, I assumed the fest would mostly be comic-related stuff, but there was a ton of great literary work, and even photography. Rock on! My brain needs to be expanded!

| | chipper | ] | I have to say: I had a great time at the Zine Fest. A really, really great time. The people I was sitting around were great, lots of good conversation, lots of awesome intellectual exchange, lots of AMAZING work, and good vibes! Not to mention that the PLACE DIDN'T GET TOO HOT. As I'm learning, this is key. As a result, I was able to stay coherent and alive for the entire two days, 7 hrs/day!
Also: I even won a book in the raffle! Yey!
So, thanks, Zine Fest! I hope you happen again next year!
(I should take pics sometime when I go to these places, but I always feel like such a dork snapping pics. I also have a crummy camera that eats up batteries.) |

| | frustrated | ] | Dear America,
I am tired of dealing with women's clothing that can't handle A) boobs, B) hips, or C) vagina. I am tired of having to devise very colorful methods to keep myself contained in such clothes, or to stop bras from showing, or straps from showing, or muffin top from showing, or camel toe from showing. If these clothes are for women, they should be able to deal with MY BOOBS, HIPS AND/OR VAGINA, AS I AM FEMALE.
America, maybe you should work on that.
Signed, me. |

I'll be selling mah junk at the Brooklyn Lyceum (In Brooklyn, no less) this weekend, at the NYC Zine Fest.
LINK IS HERE.
After this, I will surely have time to set Starfish up for online sales. |

| | weird | ] | This is me! I am going to get back into the swing of posting on LJ again! Now! Frankly, I feel that my life has turned into one thing after another (not good or bad things, just... things) and it's kind of like walking. One foot, two foot, one foot, two foot, it gets kind of tedious for all parties involved if I take the time to explain exactly how one foot lands, and then the next one, over and over. But maybe this initial step of making a genuine attempt to let the world that, yes, my foot has landed will help me get over my tedium.
So, how will I make this post interesting?
LIKE THIS:

OH CRAP, IT'S THEY WERE 11!!!!!! (Why have I been thinking of some anime from the 70s lately? Maybe because it was awesome, or I thought it was awesome in my feeble child brain. I wonder if it'd be difficult to rent somewhere...)
YES! THEY WERE 11!!!!

HERE THEY ALL ARE!!!! |

| | dorky | ] | I usually get annoyed as all get-out when I have to deal with the panhandle-music performances happening at any given time in the NYC subway system. Call me a Negative Nancy, but when you're in an underground station, the acoustics are horrid and the music bounces off the walls infinitely, and after a long day, it's not amusing. HOWEVER! There's a new band in town: THE XYLOPHOLKS.
Where's the banjo-playing chicken? I've yet to see these guys, but it's awesome. |

| | enraged | ] | So, Christmas is upon us, warm lovely feelings, etc etc, and then I check BBS news and I see this:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7799440.stm
Apparently, some nativity scenes in Italian churches include some mosques in the background as a gesture of goodwill, but NO, THAT WOULD BE TERRIBLE and there are some peeved-off people.
Quoted from the site: "'The only thing he missed out was the suicide bomber ready to blow up Christ's manger,' was the comment of the Northern League's European deputy Mario Borghezio."
YES, GREAT, OKAY. NOW SHUT THE HELL UP.
Yuletide togetherness, my ass. I hope all these assholes get coal for Christmas. I may not be Muslim, but as the stereotype goes, all Arabs MUST be Muslim, so this sort of absolute stupidity is just as painful for me to read as if I were. But besides that, WHO THE HELL SAYS THIS AS A GROSS GENERALIZATION ABOUT ***ANY*** RELIGION/CREED/RACE/BREED?
Someone please tell me what organized religion is good for, other than bigotry and hate? |

| [ | Current Mood |
| | geeky | ] | This is probably old news to all you hardcores out there, but I just made this correlation last night.
Ryuichi Sakamoto is awesome. I've had an MP3 of one of his songs for years, called Tong Poo. Here's a vid:
Love that Mr. Rogers-like beginning. Very lively.
Chris comes home last night and tells me that he just found about his wonderful old Japanese group called YMO and proceeded to play this song, also called Tong Poo.
IT IS THE SAME SONG. IN 70s TECHNO. Mind blown. I love how the video is like some moving Futurist painting. And they scratched all over the film. And it just shows clips from old video games. It's all like "THE FUTURE IS NOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWW."
And then the correlation occurs: RYUICHI SAKAMOTO WAS A MEMBER OF YMO. OHHHH CRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP. As I said, chances are the majority of you fair readers already knew that, but hey, I'm impressed I figured this out with my little-more-than-casual knowledge of these things. Rock on. |

| | aggravated | ] | You know, for a place the claims that its economy is in the deep nether regions of a poop-encrusted toilet, it certainly doesn't act like that's the case. I wanted to buy my inamorato a scarf for Christmas (SHHH! Don't tell him!), but wanted to get him something a little nicer than something I'd buy for myself, which usually ends up costing 5 dollars or so, as I'm a cheap bastard. I go to a slightly-above average department store and the damned things are sporting $50-$80 price tags. They have designer names and people are just EATING them up. I told myself: screw this, I can make one. I ended up going to a good yarn store and purchasing some quality yarn with that money. The scarf I'm making will be better quality for cheaper (though, I'm sorry, I can't make tartan). The US is supposedly in some recession, and I know I live in the "financial capitol" of the US and that must buffer out some of the poverty, but I'm still seeing people with their latest iPhones, bluetooth headsets, video games, designer boots, hell, designer ANYTHING. Walking into that store was a carnival of commercial whoredom. I don't care if Christmas is coming up. What the hell happened to the meaning of Christmas, anyway?
America has to have their stupid baubles no matter what. It's all so silly, really. |
